Expelled Kim Jonghyuk Vows to Pursue Injunction and Main Lawsuit "to the Very End"

Criticizes Ethics Committee’s Disciplinary Action Against Han Donghun
"Will Stand Up to the Forces Supporting Illegal Martial Law"

Kim Jonghyuk, a former Supreme Council member of the People Power Party who was expelled from the party as a pro-Han (Han Donghun) figure, said on the 12th, "As soon as the party's written decision on my expulsion is served, I will file an application with the court for an injunction to suspend its effect." He added, "If the injunction is not granted, I will immediately pursue a main lawsuit and see the matter through to the end to determine what is right and what is wrong."

Expelled Kim Jonghyuk Vows to Pursue Injunction and Main Lawsuit "to the Very End" Kim Jonghyeok, a former Supreme Council member of the People Power Party, is holding a press conference at the National Assembly's communication office on the 12th to criticize the party's Central Ethics Committee for expelling former leader Han Donghoon and issuing a disposition recommending that he leave the party. Yonhap News

Kim announced this plan at a press conference held at the National Assembly press center the same day. He stressed, "I will fight to the end so that political delusions do not dominate conservative politics in the Republic of Korea in 2026, and I will stand up to the (People Power Party) Ethics Committee, which has degenerated into a tool of political slaughter, and to the forces behind it that support the illegal martial law."

Kim pointed out that the Ethics Committee was wrong not only to expel him but also to expel former People Power Party leader Han Donghun. He also criticized that "it is unprecedented, even compared to the days of past military regimes decades ago, for an Ethics Committee, which should set the moral standards and values of a liberal democratic party, to be used so blatantly as a tool of political slaughter."

Kim acknowledged that this legal dispute may not necessarily lead to a favorable conclusion for him, given the nature of the courts. Nevertheless, his view is that "I expect that the court, as the last bastion for safeguarding the Constitution, will not legitimize this merely on the grounds that formal procedures were followed."

After the press conference, Kim met with reporters and argued that People Power Party leader Jang Donghyuk should "immediately dismiss" the party’s head of task performance inspection and the chair of the Ethics Committee, who, he said, hold positive views on martial law and election fraud. He also said that he is "in frequent communication" with former leader Han.

Earlier, on the 26th of last month, the party's Central Ethics Committee decided to "recommend that he leave the party" in relation to Kim, citing violations of the duty to maintain dignity and the duty to faithfully perform his work. Under party rules, the disciplinary measure was finalized as a matter to be reported, without a separate resolution by the Supreme Council.
