Prosecution uncovered evidence through forensic analysis
The day he said he had "training" was for attending his sister's wedding
While allegations have been raised that Song Minho, a member of the idol group Winner, left his post without permission while serving as a social service worker, it has been found that the prosecution stated in the indictment that "the total number of days Mr. Song was absent from his service is 102 days."
According to the indictment confirmed by the JoongAng Ilbo on February 11, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office stated that "Mr. Song, while serving as a social service worker at the Mapo-gu Facilities Management Corporation and resident convenience facilities, was absent without permission for a total of 102 days and left his service without justifiable reason."
Social service workers do not go to work on weekends and public holidays, so the actual number of days they are required to report for duty during their service period (1 year and 9 months) is about 430 days. The Military Service Act (Article 89-2) stipulates that "a person who leaves his or her service for eight days or more without justifiable reason shall be punished by imprisonment for not more than three years." If the prosecution's claims are true, there is a high possibility that he will not be able to avoid a prison sentence.
According to the indictment, Mr. Song's unauthorized absence from service tended to increase as his discharge date approached. His service period was from March 24, 2023, to December 23, 2024. According to the schedule of offenses prepared by the prosecution, Mr. Song's days of absence from service amounted to only one day during March to May 2023, but increased to 14 days in November 2024, one month before his discharge. In addition, during July 2024, when the rainy season continued nationwide, he was absent for a total of 19 days. Although he was originally scheduled to work 23 days in July, he actually served only 4 days.
Administrator told him in advance he would be "in training"... Song Minho attended his sister's wedding in the United States
The prosecution determined that Administrator A was also involved in Mr. Song's unauthorized absences. According to the indictment, A was "responsible for managing Mr. Song's service as a social service worker, including his arrival and departure from work."
When Mr. Song said he would not come to work, citing reasons such as oversleeping or fatigue, A approved this and then prepared and signed documents falsely indicating that Mr. Song had reported to work normally. During this process, A allegedly conspired in the offense by arbitrarily handling Mr. Song's remaining annual leave and sick leave, among other methods, according to the prosecution's investigation.
The indictment also contains specific details of the alleged collusion. The prosecution wrote in the indictment, "At around 6:09 p.m. on May 29, 2023, A sent Mr. Song a message saying, 'I have training tomorrow so I will not be coming to work, so I will see you on May 31,' thereby informing him in advance that he would not be at work. In response, Mr. Song did not come to work on May 30 at his own discretion," and added, "Afterward, A prepared the daily service status report as if Mr. Song had reported to work."
May 29, the day A sent the message, is also the day when a post with photos was uploaded to Mr. Song's sister's social media account, stating that Mr. Song was visiting San Francisco in the United States to attend his younger sister's wedding.
