Jeollanam-do Prioritizes Livelihood Economy and Resident Safety During Lunar New Year Holiday View of Jeollanam-do Provincial Government Office

Jeollanam-do will implement a "Comprehensive Lunar New Year Holiday Plan" from February 14 to 18, a five-day period, prioritizing "revitalizing the livelihood economy" and "resident safety" so that residents and visitors returning to their hometowns can spend a safe and comfortable Lunar New Year holiday.

Accordingly, during the holiday period, the province will focus on managing matters directly related to residents' daily lives, including: ▲promoting consumption and stabilizing prices ▲disaster and safety management ▲response to fires and forest fires ▲land and maritime transportation ▲infectious diseases and livestock diseases ▲environment, water supply, and energy.

To this end, a general situation room will be set up within the Autonomy and Administration Division, and situation rooms for each task force will be operated together to minimize any administrative vacuum during the holidays. A total of 11 task forces will be in operation, with an average of 48 people per day (29 from the province and 19 from the Fire Headquarters), and a cumulative total of 239 people working. Each task force will maintain a 24-hour emergency duty system under the responsibility of the relevant department head.

To boost the perceived holiday economy, the province will implement measures to promote consumption. Namdo Marketplace will hold a discount event of up to 50% until February 16, and for five days until February 14, 12 traditional markets will offer refunds of up to 30% of the purchase amount made with Onnuri Gift Certificates (up to 20,000 won per person). Temporary parking will also be allowed on roads around traditional markets.

A comprehensive price control situation room will also be operated to stabilize prices. Directors of Jeollanam-do and administrative support officers of cities and counties will be designated as price controllers to closely monitor price trends of popular holiday goods, and a joint inspection team will be launched with participation from price monitoring groups and consumer organizations.

In the disaster and safety sector, the Disaster and Calamity Situation Room and the Forest Fire Prevention Headquarters will operate 24 hours a day. In advance, safety inspections of multi-use facilities were carried out. In preparation for heavy snowfall and cold waves, the province will continue to manage cold wave shelters, temporary structures, and areas vulnerable to disasters. Using resident participation systems such as village and neighborhood heads, disaster situations will be communicated in real time and on-site public awareness activities will be strengthened.

For the convenience of those traveling to and from their hometowns, a special transportation countermeasures situation room will be operated. City and rural buses will see additional services or extended operating hours, and routes with temporary surges in demand, such as those to memorial parks and cemeteries, will be expanded. In the maritime sector, safety management will be reinforced for 78 coastal passenger vessels operating on 51 routes and for 5 passenger terminals.

To prevent any medical service gap, an emergency medical situation room will be operated and an emergency contact system will be maintained. In particular, emergency medical measures have been prepared, including: ▲operation of emergency rooms at 45 emergency medical institutions ▲operation of 1,793 clinics and hospitals that will remain open and 1,341 pharmacies ▲establishment of a cooperative system with regional emergency medical centers. In addition, a quarantine task force will be operated to respond to infectious diseases, and the emergency room surveillance system for cold-related illnesses (69 institutions) will continue to operate. Promotional activities to prevent respiratory infectious diseases will also be carried out, focusing on children, the elderly, and facilities vulnerable to infection.

A livestock disease control situation room will be operated, and disinfection will be strengthened at livestock farms and surrounding areas before and after the holiday to prevent African swine fever (ASF), avian influenza (AI), and foot-and-mouth disease.

In the environment and water supply sector, the province will promptly handle civil complaints related to electricity, gas, and water, along with implementing waste management measures. A recovery system will also be maintained to respond to emergencies such as frozen and burst water pipes.

Before the holiday, visits will be made to social welfare facilities to foster a warm atmosphere of sharing during the festive season, and a public service discipline situation room will be operated to firmly establish strict public service discipline.

Kang Jongcheol, Director-General of the Autonomy and Administration Bureau of Jeollanam-do, said, "By operating the general situation room and the sector-specific task forces during the holiday period, the province, the 22 cities and counties, and relevant organizations will work in close cooperation to respond swiftly to various disasters and safety accidents, so that residents and returning visitors can feel at ease and spend the Lunar New Year holidays with their families."

Information on hospitals and pharmacies available during the holiday period can be found in the notices section on the Jeollanam-do Provincial Office website and on the Emergency Medical Portal (or the Emergency Medical Information Provision app).
