Access Restricted in Sections of Yangdeokcheon and Sanhocheon
Measures in Place Until February 25 as City Mobilizes to Prevent HPAI Spread
On February 10, Changwon Special City in South Gyeongsang Province announced that a case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) had been confirmed at Yangdeokcheon in Masanhoewon-gu. In response, the city immediately implemented access control measures for Yangdeokcheon and the connected Sanhocheon to prevent the spread of HPAI within the region, and initiated additional quarantine measures.
Changwon Special City restricts access to Yangdeokcheon in Masanhoewon-gu due to an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI).
The current access restrictions will remain in place until February 25, and if any additional HPAI virus is detected, the city plans to extend the control period to prevent further spread of the infection.
The Environmental Policy Division of Changwon City is thoroughly managing the risk of virus transmission by strengthening the monitoring of wild birds and conducting environmental surveillance in the affected area. Disinfection vehicles have been deployed, and intensive quarantine operations are continuously being carried out.
Changwon City has asked residents to refrain from walking and engaging in outdoor activities within and around the access-restricted zones. This is a preventive measure to avoid contact with wild birds and reduce the risk of additional infections. The city also urged residents to immediately report any wild birds suspected of being infected with HPAI to the Environmental Policy Division of Changwon City Hall.
In addition, the city is reinforcing its full-scale system to prevent the spread of HPAI and is closely analyzing nationwide HPAI trends to devise all necessary preemptive measures. It plans to continue rigorous quarantine activities to ensure citizen safety and protect the local environment.
Lee Yujeong, Director of the Climate and Environment Bureau, said, "Active cooperation from local residents is essential to prevent the spread of this highly pathogenic avian influenza," and added, "We ask everyone to strictly comply with the access control measures, refrain from walking and outdoor activities, and actively participate in quarantine efforts to ensure the safety of the community."
