Acting Police Chief Dismisses Precinct Officer Who Mocked Suspicious Death Case

Acting Commissioner General Yoo Jaesung of the National Police Agency has ordered the immediate removal from duty and an internal inspection of a police officer who took photos of the scene of a suspicious death and uploaded them to his social media.


The National Police Agency announced on the 10th that Acting Commissioner General Yoo had ordered the dismissal from position, as well as a strict criminal investigation and internal inspection, of Police Lieutenant A, a precinct officer at the Gwangmyeong Police Station in Gyeonggi Province, who sparked controversy by posting photos of a death scene on social media.

According to the police and others, Police Lieutenant A was dispatched on the 6th to handle a suspicious death case, took photos of the scene, and uploaded them to his social media. In the post, he wrote phrases such as "Anyone want to guess what this is?" and "I should never eat blood sausage again," which triggered controversy over whether he was insulting the deceased.


Acting Commissioner General Yoo stated, "It is unacceptable for the police, who are supposed to protect the safety of the people, to post inappropriate content on social media about a citizen whose life has been taken," and ordered measures to prevent a recurrence, including strengthening education across all police activities to internalize the value of human rights.
