Moves to Strengthen AI-Semiconductor Alliance
Chairman Chey and CEO Huang Joined by Their Daughters
SK Group Chairman Chey Taewon is reported to have had a "chimaek (chicken and beer) meeting" with NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang in Silicon Valley, United States. Observers believe they discussed the supply volume of high-bandwidth memory (HBM4), which will begin mass production this year, as well as the establishment of SK Hynix's artificial intelligence (AI) data center.
According to the industry on February 9, Chairman Chey met CEO Huang on February 5 (local time) at 99 Chicken, a Korean-style fried chicken restaurant in Santa Clara, California. Chairman Chey is staying in the United States for a series of meetings with big tech companies there.
Huang Jensen, CEO of NVIDIA, attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit held at the Gyeongju Arts Center in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province on October 31 last year, met Chey Taewon, chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and presented the AI supercomputer 'DGX Spark'. Chairman Chey and CEO Huang are said to have discussed the supply of HBM4, which will be used in NVIDIA's next-generation AI platform "Vera Rubin," as well as the supply of SoCEM (low-power DRAM modules for servers), a next-generation server memory module, and NAND flash memory.
They are also expected to have exchanged views on medium- to long-term cooperation plans related to the establishment of next-generation AI data centers. SK Hynix has decided to increase its investments in semiconductors and solutions, including promoting the establishment in the United States of an AI solutions company called "AI Company."
The meeting was also reportedly attended by Chairman Chey's younger daughter, Choi Minjeong, CEO of Integral Health, and CEO Huang's daughter, Madison Huang, Senior Director of Robotics at NVIDIA.
