People Power Party Puts Forward Vision of a "Mom-Friendly Society"
Jang Donghyuk: "We Will Listen to Women's Voices and Reflect Them in Policy"
The People Power Party has pledged to strengthen its policies for women and has signaled its willingness to change by expanding the scope of its policies to include youth, labor, and the Honam region.
Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, attended the "People Power Party Women's Policy Contest Awards Ceremony" held on the 9th at ASSA Art Hall in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, and said, "Our party is trying to shed its past image and transform into a new party," adding, "We will approach policies related to youth and labor, and to the Honam region, to which the party has paid relatively little attention so far, with genuine sincerity."
Jang went on to say, "We will also think more deeply about policies for women, and we will take the initiative in developing policies to create a society where women are properly respected." He added, "Women's policies start from women's lives, but their direction does not stop at individual women; it extends to families and to society as a whole," stressing that "if women's lives are made difficult, then ultimately the future of families and of society will inevitably be shaken."
He continued, "To consider what kind of policies the People Power Party can offer to resolve the difficulties and concerns surrounding issues faced by women, such as childbirth, childrearing, and balancing work and family, we have established the 'Mom-Pyeonhan (Comfortable for Moms) Special Committee,'" adding, "Issues of childbirth and childrearing are not individual problems, but shared tasks for which our society must take collective responsibility."

Earlier, the People Power Party formed the Mom-Pyeonhan Special Committee last week and appointed People Power Party lawmaker Kim Minjeon as its chair. Focusing on the issue of balancing work and family for women, the committee plans to concentrate on expanding communication with people in their 40s and 50s who are highly interested in their children's education.
The event was held as an awards ceremony for a policy contest organized to discover innovative policies for women ahead of the June 3 local elections. A total of around 1,000 proposals were submitted to the contest. The People Power Party selected 117 outstanding entries, and the grand prize went to a "tax point utilization policy for women giving birth." This idea would allow tax points to be used in the childbirth process, including at postnatal care centers.
Chair Kim said, "Mothers must be happy for families to be happy, and families must be happy for the nation to become happy," adding, "When becoming a mother feels like a source of happiness, it will become possible to solve the low birth rate problem and achieve a population revolution."
