U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that he met with Nasry Tito Asfura, the new president of Honduras.

According to the social networking service Truth Social on the 8th (local time), President Trump invited President Asfura to the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida the previous day for talks.

President Trump said, "Tito and I share the same 'America First' values," adding, "We have a close partnership in the field of security, and we are working together to confront dangerous cartels and drug traffickers and to expel illegal immigrants and gang members from the United States."

President Trump said, "We also discussed many other issues, including investment and trade between our two countries," and added, "I look forward to welcoming President Asfura back to the United States."

President Trump openly supported President Asfura, the right-wing candidate, in last year's Honduran presidential election. His aim was to establish a pro-U.S. government in Central and South America and to block China's influence. As a result, President Asfura narrowly defeated the centrist opposition candidate.
