Jeong Wono: "I Will Run for Mayor of Seoul"... "I Will Create a Seoul Where Taxpayers Feel Their Money Is Well Spent"

Jung Wono, mayor of Seongdong District, officially announced on the 8th that he will run in the Seoul mayoral election.

At a book concert held at the All That Mind complex cultural space in Mullae-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, at 2 p.m. that day, Mayor Jung was asked, "What kind of Seoul do you want?" and replied, "I want to create a Seoul where taxes do not feel wasted," adding, "I will run for mayor of Seoul."

Mayor Jung said, "It will not be possible to achieve something grand during the four-year term of the Seoul mayor," and continued, "What citizens want is for the administration to support their lives and daily routines in a way that is as convenient and safe as possible. I think citizens want that kind of Seoul."

Mayor Jung said, "When I look at what the Seoul Metropolitan Government is doing these days, it seems that many things are done not because citizens demand them, but because the administration itself thinks they are necessary," adding, "Administration should start from addressing citizens' demands and resolving citizens' inconveniences."

The event was attended by Democratic Party of Korea lawmakers Lee Haesik and Chae Hyunil, both former Seoul district mayors.

The fact that Mayor Jung announced his intention to run in Mullae-dong, where he drove change through urban regeneration instead of redevelopment, is being interpreted as a message that he intends to expand his Seongsu-dong reorganization experience to the whole of Seoul. Jung's side stated that his official declaration of candidacy will be made separately after the Lunar New Year holidays.
