Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency will launch a large-scale special security operation ahead of the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday to ensure a safe break for residents of South Jeolla Province.

On February 6, Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency announced that it will carry out a “Lunar New Year Holiday Special Security Operation” for 10 days from the 9th to the 18th. The measure is intended to proactively respond to the increased risk of crime and accidents during the holiday period.

During this period, the police will deploy riot police units and mobile patrol units intensively to bus terminals, train stations, busy commercial districts, entertainment districts, and areas with heavy traffic congestion to safeguard public safety. They plan to strengthen visible patrols mainly in areas with high foot traffic and focus on minimizing any blind spots in law enforcement.

In particular, they will reinforce crime prevention activities against robbery and theft targeting jewelry shops, and further strengthen on-site responses to everyday crimes such as alcohol-related violence. A rapid dispatch system will also be maintained at all times to enable immediate response in the event of a major incident.

To prepare for an increase in relationship-based crimes during the holiday period, such as domestic violence and dating violence, the police will also carry out protection activities for vulnerable groups, including monitoring high-risk individuals.

Step-by-step traffic management will be implemented to ensure traffic safety on homebound and return journeys.

In Phase 1 (7th to 12th), the focus will be on inspecting accident-prone sections such as icy roads and managing congested areas like large discount stores. In Phase 2 (13th to 18th), the agency plans to concentrate its efforts on ensuring smooth traffic flow and safety for visitors to park cemeteries and vehicles using expressways during the Lunar New Year holiday.

An official at Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency said, “We will do our utmost in policing activities so that all residents of South Jeolla Province can enjoy a safe Lunar New Year holiday free from crime and accidents.”
