On the 6th, the Criminal Division 1 of the Goyang Branch of the Uijeongbu District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Heesoo) sentenced A, a man in his 60s who had been detained and indicted on charges of murder, to four years in prison.

The court also rejected the probation order requested by the prosecution.

The court stated, "Murder is a grave crime that takes a person's life, and it is impossible to restore the damage by any means, so a corresponding punishment is inevitable," adding, "The court determined that the defendant committed the crime impulsively and that he has no prior criminal record other than this case."

The court went on to explain the sentencing grounds, saying, "We also took into account the victim's frequent threats, the long-standing conflict between father and son, and the fact that the defendant fulfilled his parental duty of raising his child."

Earlier, at the sentencing hearing held on January 10, the prosecution requested that the court sentence A to seven years in prison and impose a probation order, arguing, "Considering that he committed the serious crime of killing his own biological son, it is necessary to isolate him from society."

A was detained and brought to trial on charges of killing his son with a weapon at his residence in Ilsandong-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi Province, at around 12:20 a.m. on September 23 last year.

According to the investigation, A had been in conflict with his son for a long time, and it was determined that on the day of the incident he committed the crime in a fit of anger during an argument.
