An electric scooter was spotted running among fast-moving cars in an underground expressway tunnel, sparking controversy.

On February 3, a post titled "Why on earth on an expressway" and a video were uploaded to an online community used by substitute drivers.

In the released video, an electric scooter rider is seen in a tunnel, wearing a helmet and a backpack equipped with lights, while the electric scooter itself is set so that LED lights are on, traveling in the outermost lane. Although these are safety measures to make the rider visible, the situation is extremely dangerous because this is a section where vehicles can reach speeds of up to 110 km/h.

The tunnel is the Dongtan Tunnel on the Gyeongbu Expressway, which runs underground through Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province. It is 1,210 meters long and has 10 lanes in total (5 lanes in each direction), and it is usually a heavily congested section.

Furthermore, personal mobility devices (PM) such as electric scooters are legally limited to a maximum speed of 25 km/h, which not only can disrupt the flow of traffic but also can cause accidents, making them highly dangerous in such conditions. Even in this situation, cars following behind honked their horns, but the scooter rider continued driving without paying any attention.

After the video was released, online users voiced strong criticism, commenting, "They don't seem to realize how dangerous that is," "It not only interferes with car traffic but also puts their own life at risk," "Did they enter from a section without a tollgate?" and "That is truly a very dangerous act."
