Interview with Paek Hyesung, Executive Director of Samsung Electronics' DA Business Division
Samsung Electronics, which has declared that it will foster advanced heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) solutions as a new growth engine, has unveiled its ambition to become a top-tier HVAC company in the North American market.
Paek Hyesung, Executive Director of the Digital Appliances (DA) Business Division at Samsung Electronics, said in an interview with Samsung Newsroom on the 6th, "Samsung plans to expand its reach not only in the ductless market, where we already have a distinct competitive edge, but also into the North American duct market, where central HVAC systems are mainstream, by creating strategic synergies with FlaktGroup, Germany's largest HVAC equipment manufacturer."

HVAC solutions, which stand for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, are technologies that control temperature and humidity in homes as well as in various commercial and industrial facilities. Recently, as artificial intelligence (AI) data centers and smart buildings have spread, HVAC has been drawing attention as a next-generation growth driver.
Executive Director Paek said, "HVAC is also an area that is expected to see stable annual growth of about 5%, backed by efforts to respond to global warming and by the strengthening of eco-friendly energy regulations," adding, "By combining Samsung's AI technologies and SmartThings across the HVAC market, we expect to generate major synergies in areas such as remote maintenance and optimization of energy bills."
He cited "eco-friendliness" and "high efficiency" as the trends that define this year's U.S. HVAC and air conditioner market. Executive Director Paek explained, "As various environmental regulations, including the application of refrigerants with lower global warming potential, are expanding to the commercial sector, the market is shifting from fixed-speed air conditioners to inverter heat pumps with higher energy efficiency."
He added, "In addition, AI-based predictive maintenance and optimal operation, along with comfort and energy-saving technologies that leverage various Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, are spreading, so improving energy and operational efficiency is emerging as a core trend."

In the North American HVAC market, residential products account for about 70% and commercial products for about 30%. This is why Samsung Electronics is putting forward highly energy-efficient, inverter-based ductless products as its key weapon in the residential segment.
Executive Director Paek said, "Through a joint venture with Lennox, a leading local residential HVAC company in the United States, we are expanding our distribution network across North America," adding, "In the commercial market, we are working with the recently acquired FlaktGroup to provide customized total solutions for high value-added industries such as data centers and clean rooms, centered on the high-efficiency large-scale system air conditioner DVM S2+ and modular chillers."
Executive Director Paek emphasized, "By combining Samsung's chiller technologies with FlaktGroup's cooling solutions, we will provide optimal solutions for the data center market," and added, "We will also rapidly roll out products with lower global warming potential and continuously strengthen AI-based energy-saving technologies."
Earlier, in Las Vegas, the AHR Expo, North America's largest HVAC exhibition, was successfully held from the 2nd to the 4th (local time). At this exhibition, Samsung Electronics secured an exhibition space of about 350 square meters and presented future-oriented HVAC solutions under the theme of "Creating a Better Everyday Life." In particular, through a broad product lineup covering both residential and commercial spaces, the company showcased AI energy management and maintenance innovation experiences that can be directly felt in real-world usage environments, capturing the attention of visitors.
