Appeal by Former President Moon Jaein's Daughter Dismissed
"No Grounds to Change Original Sentence"
First Trial Imposed Fine of 15 Million Won
Moon Dahye, daughter of former President Moon Jaein, who was put on trial on charges of drunk driving and operating an illegal lodging business, was also sentenced to a fine in the appeals trial.
The Criminal Appeals Division 2-3 of the Seoul Western District Court (Presiding Judge Lim Gihwan), in the sentencing hearing on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act and the Public Health Control Act, dismissed both the prosecutor's and Moon's appeals, stating that "no new circumstances have been found that would warrant changing the sentence of the original trial." In the first trial, Moon was sentenced to a fine of 15 million won.
Moon was brought to trial on charges of driving under the influence and colliding with a following taxi while changing lanes in front of the Hamilton Hotel in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, on October 5, 2024. At the time of the accident, her blood alcohol concentration was found to be 0.149%, exceeding the license revocation threshold of 0.08%.
She is also accused of violating the Public Health Control Act by operating her own officetel and villa in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, and a detached house in Hallim-eup, Jeju City, as illegal lodging facilities for about five years, earning 136 million won in profits.
