Booked as a suspect on charges including abuse of authority
Former secretary Yoon Jaesoon questioned on the 3rd
The police, who took over the insurrection special counsel case and are currently investigating it, have reportedly notified former Chief Presidential Secretary Chung Jinsuk to appear for questioning over suspicions that he ordered the wiping of presidential office PCs around the time of former President Yoon Sukyeol's impeachment.
According to the police and others on February 4, the National Office of Investigation's special investigation headquarters requested that former chief Chung Jinsuk appear for questioning.
Former chief Chung Jinsuk is suspected of having ordered, together with former presidential secretary for general affairs Yoon Jaesoon, the wiping of PCs at the presidential office around the time of former President Yoon Sukyeol's impeachment. Previously, allegations were raised that in April last year he received a report on, and approved, the so-called "Plan B" scheme, a PC-wiping operation prepared by former secretary Yoon in anticipation of a change of administration.
The police believe that this measure was intended to conceal evidence related to the emergency martial law plan, and have booked former chief Chung and others as suspects on charges including damaging public electronic records, violating the Presidential Records Management Act, and abuse of authority.
The insurrection special counsel team investigated the possibility that the presidential office, in preparation for an investigation into the emergency martial law plan, attempted to destroy evidence at the institutional level, but was unable to complete the probe within the investigation period due to the massive volume of presidential records.
The case was subsequently handed over to the police, and the special investigation headquarters summoned former secretary Yoon Jaesoon the previous day as a suspect for questioning.
