Launched in the United Kingdom in 1993, the IPA is a global real estate awards program that recognizes innovative projects across various fields, including architecture, development, and interior design. It first selects national winners, then regional winners by continent, and finally determines the best in the world.
Lotte World Tower & Mall was selected in May last year as the representative sustainable commercial real estate development project for the Asia-Pacific region and went on to compete in the Best International category. Other nominees in this round of judging included world-class developments such as Lee Garden Eight in Hong Kong and Glear in Cairo, Egypt.
The company explained that the eco-friendly facilities at Lotte World Tower & Mall, including hydrothermal, geothermal, solar power, and fuel cells, played a decisive role in winning the award. As of 2024, Lotte World Tower & Mall replaces 20% of the complex's total energy consumption with renewable energy. Compared with fossil fuel use, this results in an annual reduction of approximately 36% in carbon dioxide emissions. In addition, the fact that about 30% of the total area of Lotte World Tower & Mall has been developed as open green space, thereby improving the urban living environment, was also recognized.
Jaehoon Jang, CEO of Lotte Property & Development, said, "We are pleased that the sustainability of the eco-friendly facilities at Lotte World Tower & Mall has been recognized on a global stage," adding, "Based on the strong development capabilities held by Lotte Property & Development, we plan to continue growing as a leading real estate specialist in Korea."
