On February 3, President Lee Jae-myung emphasized, "For a reasonable and prosperous nation, I will do whatever it takes to eradicate the destructive real estate speculation." Regarding public criticism of the government's real estate policies, he rebuked, "They say money is the devil-have you lost even the slightest sense of conscience to the devil?"
On this day, President Lee shared an article titled "'Tears of Multi-home Owners' Raised by Conservative and Economic Media... Is the Government's 'Normalization of Real Estate' the Problem?" through his X (formerly Twitter) account, making these remarks. He stated, "To those who feel sympathy for the tears of hundreds of thousands of multi-home owners seeking unearned income through real estate speculation, I ask: Can you not see the tears of blood shed by millions of young people who are giving up marriage and childbirth due to high housing costs caused by these speculators?"
President Lee continued, "To those who expect and agitate that we will fail again just because we failed in the past, let me inform you: In the past, real estate was the only investment vehicle, but now there are alternative investment options. The objective circumstances are completely different from before." The implication is that while real estate used to be the most preferred investment, stocks have now become number one, indicating a shift in market conditions.
President Lee also stated, "Lastly, the power elected by the people has changed," highlighting that the implementation rate of his campaign pledges averages 95 percent. He said, "Even when I was a desperate candidate, I made every effort to keep my promises," adding, "As the President of the Republic of Korea, who holds the ultimate authority, I have no reason to make empty statements."
He further remarked, "To those who think these are empty threats, those who sympathize with the tears of multi-home owners and defend real estate speculation, I hope you will soberly and objectively face the changed reality," adding, "If we do not weigh immediate gains and losses, there are plenty of policy tools available."
He concluded, "This is not a threat or intimidation, but a necessary and beneficial recommendation for everyone. This is your last chance to get out."
