Naver Resumes News Partnership Committee Activities After 2 Years and 8 Months... "New Media Outlets to Be Added" Yonhap News

Naver will resume the activities of its News Partnership Committee after a hiatus of 2 years and 8 months. Once the committee completes its news evaluation activities, it is expected that new partner media outlets will be added within the year.

According to the IT industry on February 2, the Naver News Partnership Committee plans to conduct partnership reviews with media outlets for the provision of the 'Naver News Service' and to evaluate the operations of existing partner media companies.

Naver had temporarily suspended the activities of the News Partnership Committee, which was responsible for onboarding and sanction evaluations, in May 2023. This announcement marks the resumption of its activities after 2 years and 8 months.

On this day, Naver announced a call for candidates to form the pool of committee members who will conduct the news service reviews and evaluations. Naver also sent official requests for cooperation to relevant organizations and institutions to recommend candidates for the Partnership Review Committee and the Operations Evaluation Committee.

The Partnership Review Committee evaluates the qualifications required for media outlets to become Naver news partners, while the Operations Evaluation Committee is responsible for determining whether partner media outlets have violated review and operational regulations and whether sanctions should be imposed.

The official requests were sent to organizations such as the Media Diversity Committee, the Public Opinion Concentration Survey Committee, the Internet Newspaper Ethics Committee, the Korea Newspaper Ethics Committee, and reader/viewer committees at media outlets that meet the operational regulations of the News Partnership Committee.

A Naver representative stated, "The total pool of expert reviewers who will make up the Partnership Review Committee and the Operations Evaluation Committee will consist of between 300 and 500 people," adding, "The detailed follow-up schedule for forming the pool will be announced at a later date."
