The 'Safety Officer' initiative is a collaborative job creation project aimed at preventing various safety accidents that may occur around large construction sites, such as those for redevelopment and reconstruction, and at ensuring pedestrian safety for citizens. The project involves on-site activities such as guiding safe routes for students and pedestrians, and directing safe operation of construction vehicles, all with the goal of creating a safety environment that citizens can truly feel.
At the launch ceremony, Seungwon Park, Mayor of Gwangmyeong City, stated, "The on-site activities of safety officers, who are composed of local residents, will help reduce citizens' anxiety and serve as a strong foundation for making Gwangmyeong a safer city," adding, "We will spare no administrative support to ensure the stable establishment of the safety officer program."
The safety officer team consists of a total of 96 members, who will work five days a week for approximately five months until June 26.
They are organized into 13 groups, divided into morning, afternoon, and night shifts, and will be responsible for managing school routes and pedestrian walkways around construction sites. Their duties include inspecting safety fences and promptly reporting and responding to incidents involving noise, vibration, or dust.
The city plans to create public sector jobs through the operation of the safety officer program, while also striving to build a safe city where citizens can feel secure through continuous on-site inspections and prevention-focused safety activities.
