[Weather] Heavy Snow Nationwide Tomorrow... Morning Temperatures Below Freezing

On February 2, heavy snowfall is expected across the country.


A heavy snow advisory has been issued for Gimpo, Yeoncheon, and Paju in Gyeonggi Province; Cheorwon and Hwacheon in Gangwon Province; and Ganghwa in Incheon. Snow will fall in various parts of the central region, North Jeolla, western South Jeolla, and northern inland North Gyeongsang. In the Seoul metropolitan area and Chungcheongnam-do, the snow is expected to stop by late dawn, while in other regions, it will mostly subside in the morning. In the Jeolla and Gyeongsang regions, snow is expected from late dawn to morning, and on Jeju Island, snow or rain is forecast between late dawn and the afternoon.


In the Seoul metropolitan area, heavy snow of 1 to 3 centimeters per hour (up to around 5 centimeters in some areas) is expected until early dawn. In the inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon Province, the Chungcheong region, and western North Jeolla, heavy snow will continue until dawn. In eastern North Jeolla, Gwangju, South Jeolla, and the Gyeongsang region, the heavy snow is expected to last until morning.


Temperatures are expected to be similar to the seasonal average (morning lows of -12 to 0 degrees Celsius, daytime highs of 1 to 8 degrees Celsius). The morning low will range from -10 to 0 degrees Celsius, and the daytime high will be between -1 and 7 degrees Celsius.


With dry weather advisories in effect for most regions and strong winds forecast, extra caution is required to prevent various types of fires.


Waves in the East Sea are expected to reach 0.5 to 2.5 meters near the coast, and 0.5 to 1.5 meters in the West and South Seas. In the outer seas (about 200 kilometers from the coastline), wave heights are forecast to be 1.0 to 3.5 meters in the East Sea, 0.5 to 2.5 meters in the West Sea, and 0.5 to 3.5 meters in the South Sea.
