President Lee Attends Funeral Ceremony for Late Prime Minister Lee Haechan... Offers Flowers in Person Yonhap News Agency

President Lee Jaemyung and First Lady Kim Hye-kyung attended the funeral ceremony for the late Lee Haechan, Senior Vice Chairperson of the National Unification Advisory Council, on January 31.


President Lee appeared at the ceremony, which was held in the morning at the National Assembly Members' Office Building in Yeouido, wearing a black suit and a mourning ribbon pinned to his chest.


Sitting alongside the bereaved family, President Lee held their hands and offered his condolences before the ceremony began.


The funeral ceremony proceeded in the following order: an introduction of the late Lee's career by Presidential Political Affairs Advisor Cho Jung-sik, a memorial address by Prime Minister Kim Minseok, and eulogies delivered by National Assembly Speaker Woo Wonshik, Democratic Party leader Jung Cheongrae, and Seoul National University Professor Emeritus Paik Nakchung.


President Lee maintained a solemn expression throughout the ceremony. During Prime Minister Kim Minseok's memorial address, President Lee took out a handkerchief and wiped away his tears.


After the eulogies were read, President Lee offered flowers to the deceased.


Following the funeral ceremony, the late Lee will be cremated at Seoul Memorial Park and laid to rest at Eunhasu Park in Sejong City.
