President Lee Holds Phone Talks with Vietnamese Party Chief: "Pushing for Cooperation in Nuclear Power, High-Speed Rail, and New City Development"

Appreciation for Support in Lee Haechan's Treatment and Funeral Procession

On January 30, President Lee Jaemyung held a phone conversation at the Blue House with General Secretary To Lam of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Kang Yujeong, spokesperson for the Blue House, stated that President Lee congratulated General Secretary To Lam on his reappointment at the recently held 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

President Lee expressed his firm belief that, under the leadership of General Secretary Lam, Vietnam will continue to achieve rapid growth and further enhance its standing in the international community. He also stated that, as a comprehensive strategic partner, Korea would stand as a reliable partner throughout this process. General Secretary Lam secured his re-election at the 14th National Congress and will serve until 2031.

In response, General Secretary Lam expressed his gratitude for President Lee's congratulations and emphasized that Vietnam places great importance on its cooperation with Korea. He also expressed his hope that, based on the active high-level exchanges and mutual trust between the two countries last year, bilateral relations would further develop. To this end, he conveyed his expectation that President Lee and the First Lady would visit Vietnam at the earliest possible opportunity this year.

President Lee thanked General Secretary Lam for the invitation and said, "I hope that our two countries will continue to actively pursue mutually beneficial cooperation in strategic areas that support Vietnam's future development, such as nuclear power, high-speed rail, and new city development." He also requested Vietnam's continued interest and support to ensure that Korean companies operating in Vietnam can conduct their activities smoothly.

Meanwhile, General Secretary Lam, on behalf of the people of Vietnam, expressed his deepest condolences and sympathy over the passing of the late Lee Haechan, Senior Vice Chairperson of the National Unification Advisory Council. In response, President Lee introduced the life of the late Lee Haechan, who was a great mentor in Korean politics and dedicated his life to democracy, and expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the special cooperation and respect shown by the Vietnamese side throughout the entire process, from medical treatment to the funeral procession.
