Samsung Electronics Launches A4-Size Color E-Paper Highlighting Ultra-Low Power and Eco-Friendliness

Samsung Electronics will sequentially launch the 13-inch 'Samsung Color E-Paper,' which is about the size of an A4 sheet of paper, in global markets.

On January 30, Samsung Electronics announced the release of a new 13-inch model, the size of an A4 sheet, in addition to last year's first 32-inch model. The 'Samsung Color E-Paper' is a digital signage device that is as thin and light as paper. It features digital ink technology, which significantly reduces power consumption compared to conventional products.

The new 13-inch product offers a 1600x1200 resolution and a 4:3 aspect ratio. The thinnest part measures 8.6mm, and the weight, including the battery, is approximately 0.9kg. It comes with a rechargeable removable battery, a stand for tabletop use, and a ceiling-mount bracket, making it suitable for various commercial environments such as walls, rail wires, and tables.

This product is the world's first to use bio-resin based on plant-derived plankton oil. Samsung Electronics explained that by using plant plankton, which directly absorbs carbon dioxide during the resin production process, as a raw material, it can reduce carbon emissions by more than 40% compared to conventional petroleum-based plastic materials.

The product cover has been certified by the global certification body UL to contain more than half bio-resin and recycled plastic. All packaging materials are made exclusively from paper.

The device is equipped with the 'Color Imaging Algorithm,' a content optimization technology, and allows for convenient operation of content playlists and device control. It also provides features such as content quality optimization and color preview.

Kim Hyeongjae, Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, stated, "To minimize environmental impact, we developed a bio-resin based on plant plankton and applied it to our products for the first time in the industry. We will continue to pioneer new markets through technological innovation, including new color e-paper products that can replace paper and the development of new materials."

Samsung Electronics will also unveil, for the first time, a 20-inch color e-paper, the size of an A3 sheet of paper, at 'ISE 2026,' Europe's largest commercial display exhibition, to be held in Barcelona, Spain, in February.
