Experiential Leisure Map
Gumi Science Museum and Indong Library Revamped
Second Camping Site Opens, Citywide Surge in Leisure Activities
Over 10 Billion Won Invested from Indoor to Outdoor Spaces
Significant Expansion of Family-Oriented Leisure Infrastructure
On January 29, the city of Gumi in North Gyeongsang Province announced that it has completely revamped its urban content with a total project investment of 10.25 billion won.
From indoor cultural spaces to outdoor experiential facilities, the city has redrawn its "experiential leisure map," allowing children and citizens to enjoy a wide variety of activities in the city during the winter break and Lunar New Year holidays.
Indong Library has undergone a dramatic transformation for the first time in 25 years.
This renovation was carried out with a total project budget of 5.8 billion won (3.2 billion won from the national government, 700 million won from the provincial government, and 1.9 billion won from the city government), secured through the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 2024 "Public Building Green Remodeling Project" and the 2025 "Public Library Construction Support Transition Project."
Moving away from its previous focus on static reading spaces, the library has been reborn as a stay-type, multi-purpose cultural complex where people can gather and interact. Within just two weeks of its temporary reopening, it attracted a total of 7,000 visitors, demonstrating its strong appeal.
In particular, the library has established both a shared childcare center and a 24-hour community care center, serving as a key community hub that helps alleviate the childcare burden for parents.

The main building of the Gumi Science Museum has been upgraded with a state-of-the-art planetarium, thanks to an investment of 700 million won.
The viewing environment has been greatly improved with ultra-high-resolution digital projection equipment and immersive sound systems. The museum is now screening new space-themed films and hosting its own astronomy simulation lectures.
Word of mouth about the museum's high-quality science experiences and lectures has spread quickly, and within just two weeks of reopening, the number of visitors surpassed 3,000, establishing it as a leading science experience destination in the region.

Outdoor experiential facilities have also been significantly expanded. Riding on the immense popularity of the Gumi Nakdonggang Camping Site, which attracts 180,000 visitors annually, the city officially opened a second camping site within the Nakdonggang Sports Park on January 24 to provide citizens with an even more comfortable camping environment.
This new site, built with an investment of 3.4 billion won, features 50 large-scale auto-camping sites (each 10m x 10m), as well as family-friendly amenities such as a nine-hole mini golf course and a children's playground. As a result, despite it being the off-season for camping, the site has achieved a 100% weekend reservation rate, quickly emerging as a new camping hotspot.

The outdoor Snow Park, created as a winter experiential attraction with a project budget of 350 million won, offers a variety of programs such as sledding and skating, receiving enthusiastic responses from citizens.
Depending on the season, Gumi City operates themed leisure content such as water parks in the summer and sledding slopes in the winter, enhancing citizen satisfaction. This winter, the city has provided a sledding slide and a skating rink measuring 20 meters by 30 meters, among other facilities. In particular, the reintroduction of a sledding slide exclusively for young children has proven very popular among parents with small children.
Thanks to these carefully enhanced offerings, more than 18,000 people visited within three weeks of opening, showcasing the strength of Gumi's content. The Snow Park is scheduled to remain open until February 1.

Jangho Kim, Mayor of Gumi, stated, "We have significantly strengthened our indoor and outdoor experiential content so that citizens and visitors can enjoy the pleasures of each season within the city. We will continue to expand urban leisure content to create a city where culture and daily life blend naturally together."
