Ruling Party and Government: "January 29 Real Estate Plan Will Prove This Administration Is Different"

Ongoing Real Estate Supply Measures to Be Announced
Smooth Progress of Existing Redevelopment Projects Also Promised

The Democratic Party of Korea and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that they will introduce ongoing supply measures separate from the January 29 Real Estate Plan, which is a supply measure for the Seoul metropolitan area. They also expressed their intention to present housing supply plans with a sense of urgency and to closely monitor the actual implementation of these plans.

Han Jungae, Chair of the Policy Committee of the Democratic Party, stated at the ruling party-government consultation on expanding and accelerating urban housing supply held at the National Assembly on January 29, "Starting with today's announcement, the government should continue to introduce new projects and demonstrate to the public that supply will be steadily provided, thereby building trust. In the past, there have been cases where projects announced by previous administrations were not properly implemented or faced setbacks. Please show the public that this administration is different by ensuring that projects are actually carried out." She added, "Please make sure to meticulously manage the projects so that they are neither delayed nor canceled."

Regarding the October 15 Real Estate Plan, which includes the expansion of land transaction permit zones, she said, "There are also concerns that redevelopment projects may be hindered," and requested, "Please make efforts to ensure that these projects can proceed smoothly." Han further stated, "I hope the government and the ruling party can send a reassuring message by taking full responsibility for housing supply. The National Assembly will also actively cooperate and ensure that the government’s legislative initiatives and housing supply measures can proceed without setbacks."

Kim Yoonduk, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, "The supply volume announced today is not the end. We will continue to make additional announcements after further discussions and reviews. While this announcement focused on volume, we will also identify and announce institutional improvement tasks in the future."

The emphasis on speed continued.

Maeng Sungkyu, Chair of the National Assembly’s Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee (Democratic Party), said at the meeting, "The key to supply is not just increasing the volume, but also how quickly and where we build." He added, "Especially in urban areas of the Seoul metropolitan region, it is important to actively utilize idle public land, outdated public buildings, and other public assets to enhance competitiveness and prevent project delays. Legislative measures to improve the system are needed, and I will do my part to ensure this."
