Shuka World Video Resurfaces After KOSPI 5000 Milestone
"(From now on) How much does it need to rise? It just needs to go up exactly 100%. The presidential election theme stock 'KOSPI'!"
This was the reaction of the famous economic YouTuber Shuka World to President Lee Jaemyung's campaign pledge to achieve "KOSPI 5000" during the last presidential election. However, about seven months after President Lee took office, the KOSPI surpassed the 5000 mark for the first time in history, and Shuka World's video, which had mocked the pledge, is now being revisited.
"The political theme stock itself is KOSPI"... Past video resurfaces
Recently, various online communities and social networking services (SNS) have been revisiting a scene in which Shuka World appeared to mock President Lee's "KOSPI 5000" pledge during the presidential election. The controversial remarks were made during Shuka World's appearance last year on the YouTube channel "Money Comics."
At the time, when another guest asked, "How can the KOSPI reach 5000?", he responded with a series of ironic comments that seemed to excessively praise the campaign pledge. Shuka World said, "Are you criticizing the pledges made by the presidential candidates?" and continued, "Resolve the Korea Discount, usher in the era of KOSPI 5000, implement a one-strike-out policy for stock manipulators, revise the Commercial Act, and do all sorts of good things to reach 5000!" He clapped his hands, further emphasizing his sarcasm.
He went on to say, "Not 3000, not 4000, but 5000. From now on, it just needs to go up exactly 100%," adding, "Until you get elected, you can dream... The political theme stock itself is KOSPI. I'm telling you openly. We're not doing this in secret," continuing to argue that achieving KOSPI 5000 was unrealistic.
On the 22nd, when the KOSPI surpassed the dream index of 5000, employees were clapping joyfully in the dealing room of Hana Bank in Jung-gu, Seoul.
However, on the 22nd, the KOSPI surpassed the 5000 mark during trading hours. This is the first time in 43 years since the KOSPI was launched in 1983. Market experts believe this result was due to a complex combination of factors. While policies to enhance corporate value and expand shareholder returns have continued, expectations for improved earnings have grown, especially in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector. In addition, investor sentiment toward key industries, including semiconductors, has recovered, helping to drive the index higher. There is also analysis that the accelerated flow of capital from the real estate market to the stock market, following the tightening of real estate financial regulations, has played a role.
"I'm embarrassed for him"... Netizens flood the comments
Subsequently, on the 27th, Shuka World analyzed the recent KOSPI boom in a video titled "100 Trillion Won Electronics, 80-Nix Soaring KOSPI." However, after the video was released, the comments section was flooded with a variety of reactions.
Some netizens commented, "Economic YouTuber???", "I remember the video where he laughed at how unrealistic it was," "Reflect on yourself," "I'm embarrassed for him," "Does he even know how shameful this is?" and "I recommend watching his old videos." There were also comments expressing dissatisfaction regarding investment decisions.
