Jang Donghyuk Returns to Party Duties: "Han Donghoon's Expulsion Will Proceed According to Procedure"

"We Will Monitor the Final Ruling on Kwon Seongdong"

Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, returned to party work on the 28th and commented on the possible expulsion of former party leader Han Donghoon, stating, "Internal party matters will proceed according to due process."

After attending the "People Power Party On-Site Price Inspection Meeting" held at the aT Center in Seocho-gu, Seoul, Jang met with reporters and said, "What matters most right now are the lives of the people, the economy, and livelihoods." With this, he effectively expressed his intention to push ahead with the expulsion decision.

Jang Donghyuk Returns to Party Duties: "Han Donghoon's Expulsion Will Proceed According to Procedure" Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, is delivering a greeting at the on-site price inspection meeting held on the 28th at the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) comprehensive situation room in Seocho-gu, Seoul.

Previously, on the 14th, the People Power Party convened its Central Ethics Committee and decided on Han's expulsion. If the Supreme Council approves the agenda at its meeting tomorrow, the expulsion procedure for Han will be finalized.

Regarding concerns within the party, including Seoul Mayor Oh Sehoon's opposition to Han's expulsion, Jang maintained a firm stance, saying, "Sufficient time has been given according to procedure," and added, "We will proceed according to due process."

He also voiced concerns, stating, "Tariff negotiations are at risk of returning to square one, and people's livelihoods are suffering," and "The special prosecutor we demanded has not been properly implemented." He further said, "There are various other domestic and international issues," expressing his intention to focus on the pressing challenges at hand.

Regarding People Power Party lawmaker Kwon Seongdong being sentenced to two years in prison in the first trial for illegal political funds from the Unification Church, Jang stressed, "All possible investigations into the Unification Church involving the opposition have been conducted," and "Even though incidents involving ruling party figures were highlighted during the investigation, the special prosecutor failed to address them."

He continued, "That is why we are demanding a special prosecutor for the Unification Church case," and added, "There was a first trial verdict today, and I expect the judiciary will make fair decisions that the public can accept regarding the various ongoing cases." He also said, "We will monitor the process until the final ruling."

Regarding the assessment that he returned to work soon after ending his hunger strike on the 22nd, Jang explained that, given the controversy over the US tariff hike, high inflation, and the lack of progress in the special prosecutor's investigation, "Now that I am able to act, I could not afford to delay any longer."

Meanwhile, after watching the film "The Forgotten President - The Era of Kim Youngsam's Reforms" at a cinema in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, former leader Han Donghoon stated, "Even after being unfairly expelled, I will continue to trust the people and move forward with an unyielding spirit, just as former President Kim Youngsam said, 'Even if you twist the neck of a rooster, dawn will come.'"
