'Lim Seonggeun Perjury' Trial: Actor Park Sungwoong to Testify in March

The special investigation team led by Lee Myunghyun, which is probing the death of a Marine in the line of duty, will summon actor Park Sungwoong as a key witness to prove the perjury charges against former Marine 1st Division Commander Lim Seonggeun.

On January 28, the 22nd Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court granted the special prosecutor's request to call Park as a witness during the second pretrial hearing for Lim's perjury case. Although the hearing was intended to outline the prosecution's future plans for evidence, Lim, the defendant, appeared in person to observe the proceedings.

Park's testimony is expected to provide crucial evidence in clarifying the connection between Lim and Lee Jongho, former CEO of Black Pearl Invest, who is at the center of lobbying allegations. During a previous investigation, Park testified that he had dinner with Lim and Lee at a location in Gangnam, Seoul, in 2022. This directly contradicts Lim's consistent denial of any acquaintance with Lee and his rejection of the lobbying allegations.

During a parliamentary audit in October 2025, Lim strongly denied the allegations when questioned about the dinner, stating, "How could I have met that actor (Park Sungwoong) when I have never met Lee Jongho?" Based on Park's statement, the special prosecutor concluded that Lim committed perjury during his parliamentary testimony and brought him to trial.

Lim also faces charges of giving false testimony regarding his mobile phone password. During a parliamentary hearing in July 2024, he responded that he "could not remember" his password. However, just before a court review of his arrest warrant, he submitted the password to the special prosecutor, claiming that he "miraculously remembered it," which sparked controversy. The special prosecutor believes this was a deliberate attempt to evade the investigation.

The court concluded the pretrial procedures on this day and will begin full witness examinations in March. Park's testimony is scheduled for 10 a.m. on March 25. According to the Criminal Procedure Act, if a witness who has been summoned fails to appear without a valid reason, the court may issue a warrant for their arrest or impose a fine.
