The event was attended by Kim Ho, Chairperson of the Presidential Committee on Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Policy; Yoon Jin-ho, Acting Deputy Governor for Administrative Affairs of Jeollanam-do; Kim Moon-su, Chairperson of the Agriculture and Fisheries Committee of the Jeollanam-do Provincial Council; the Jeollanam-do Federation of Young Farmers; the Jeollanam-do Federation of Korean Women Farmers; the Jeollanam-do Eco-Friendly Agriculture Association; the Jeollanam-do Federation of Korean Rice Farmers; the Gwangju-Jeonnam Branch of the National Korean Beef Association; the Gwangju-Jeonnam Branch of the Korean Forest Managers Association; and approximately 200 representatives from agricultural organizations and experts in Jeollanam-do.
Jeollanam-do presented its 2026 key agricultural policy directions and six main initiatives under the theme of "Fostering High-Income Future Bio-Agriculture," including: ▲ Establishing a foundation for innovation in agricultural artificial intelligence transformation (AX) in Jeollanam-do and nurturing advanced future agriculture ▲ Creating agricultural production and settlement infrastructure ▲ Expanding distribution and high-value income bases ▲ Leading K-Low Carbon and eco-friendly agriculture ▲ Fostering environmentally friendly smart livestock farming ▲ Strengthening proactive animal disease prevention and response.
Following this, Chairperson Kim Ho and Yoo Deok-gyu, Director of the Agriculture, Livestock and Food Bureau of Jeollanam-do, presided over a session to listen to farmers' opinions and explore ways to improve agricultural policy.
Farmers participating in the town hall meeting made several suggestions, including the establishment of a new agency under the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs for the smooth operation of the Agri-Food Climate Change Response Center, modernization of the K-tea Boseong Matcha processing facilities, and the creation of an AI-powered advanced livestock industry convergence valley.
Chairperson Kim Ho stated, "The voices from the field are the most important for the sustainable future of agriculture, fisheries, and rural communities," adding, "I hope this Jeollanam-do town hall meeting will serve as a starting point for a practical policy shift, where the central government, local governments, and farmers work together to find solutions."
Yoon Jin-ho, Acting Deputy Governor for Administrative Affairs, emphasized, "This town hall meeting is not a place to discuss what the government and Jeollanam-do have done, but rather to discuss with farmers on the ground what further changes can be made," adding, "We will thoroughly review the proposals from farmers and implement them meticulously to revitalize agriculture and rural communities, and to achieve a major shift in agricultural policy in response to various crises."
