On January 26 (local time), President Donald Trump of the United States announced that he would once again raise reciprocal tariffs on South Korea and increase tariffs on South Korean automobiles to 25%.
President Trump posted on the social media platform Truth Social, stating, "The National Assembly of South Korea is not implementing the historic (U.S.-Korea) trade agreement," and added, "Accordingly, I am raising reciprocal tariffs on South Korean automobiles, lumber, pharmaceuticals, and other goods from 15% to 25%."
President Trump said, "Our trade agreements are extremely important to the United States, and in each agreement, we have promptly reduced tariffs as agreed," adding, "Naturally, we expect our trading partners to act in the same manner."
