Lee Haechan, Senior Vice Chairperson of the National Unification Advisory Council, passed away on January 25.
The National Unification Advisory Council announced on this day, "Senior Vice Chairperson Lee passed away at 2:48 p.m. local time in Vietnam."
The late Senior Vice Chairperson Lee had arrived in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on January 22 to attend the Asia-Pacific Regional Committee meeting of the National Unification Advisory Council. However, his health deteriorated the following morning, prompting emergency repatriation procedures. After arriving at the airport in Vietnam, he experienced respiratory distress and was urgently transported to Tam Ahn Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City.
Senior Vice Chairperson Lee was diagnosed with myocardial infarction and received a stent procedure, as well as ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) treatment in the intensive care unit, but ultimately did not regain consciousness and passed away.
A representative of the National Unification Advisory Council stated, "We are currently discussing domestic transport and funeral arrangements with the bereaved family and related organizations, and will provide further updates once details are finalized. We ask for your prayers for the deceased and warm condolences to the bereaved family."
