43 Documentation DB Entries and New English Service Launched
Ancient Horse Thematic Content Released for the Year of the Horse
The National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage announced on January 26 that it has completely revamped its "National Heritage Knowledge Link" website, making its accumulated research achievements and digital resources accessible to everyone.
The most notable change is the expansion of its database (DB). The institute has released 43 entries in the "Documentation DB," which comprehensively covers the originals of nationally designated paintings, their production periods, locations, and detailed descriptions. To cater to foreigners and overseas researchers interested in Korean cultural heritage, a new "Artistic Heritage of Korea" section has been added, offering resources such as Buddhist banner paintings, portraits, and original art materials in English.
The site also features "thematic content" designed to engage general users. The Cultural Heritage Conservation Science Center has introduced the "Six Selected Conservation Treatments of National Treasures and Treasures," showcasing exemplary artifacts by material that have undergone conservation. In celebration of the Year of the Horse (Byeongo Year) in 2026, the site presents a storytelling format that traces the investigation process of ancient horses, from field excavation to laboratory analysis.
There are also significant functional upgrades to enhance user convenience. The "Academic Conference Archive" systematically organizes the vast collection of presentations and videos accumulated over the years, while the user interface (UI) of both the Korean and English websites has been redesigned to be more intuitive, greatly improving information accessibility.
The institute stated, "Going forward, we plan to build an advanced research information service incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) technology to broaden the scope of utilization for national heritage data."
