Cardiac Arrest Occurred During Hospital Transfer
Lee Hae-chan, Executive Vice Chairperson of the National Unification Advisory Council, has fallen into critical condition while on a business trip to Vietnam. In response, President Lee Jaemyung has decided to urgently dispatch Political Affairs Special Advisor Cho Jungshik to Vietnam.
The Office of the Presidential Spokesperson announced on the 23rd, "President Lee Jaemyung received a report that Lee Hae-chan, Executive Vice Chairperson of the National Unification Advisory Council, is in critical condition during his official trip, and has urgently dispatched Political Affairs Special Advisor Cho Jungshik to Vietnam." Vice Chairperson Lee is a symbolic figure within the democratic camp.
As a result, the Blue House appears to have decided to dispatch Advisor Cho, a six-term lawmaker. Advisor Cho is expected to depart for Vietnam early in the morning on the 24th. Other Democratic Party of Korea members, including Assemblywoman Lee Jaejung, are also planning to leave for Vietnam as soon as flights become available.
Previously, Lee Hae-chan, Executive Vice Chairperson of the National Unification Advisory Council, experienced a sudden deterioration in health during his business trip and was urgently transported to a local hospital. According to officials from the National Unification Advisory Council, Vice Chairperson Lee began experiencing symptoms of weakened breathing while on a business trip in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and was taken by ambulance to the emergency room. It was reported that he suffered cardiac arrest during transport, but his breathing was restored after receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
It is known that Vice Chairperson Lee was preparing to return home as he was not feeling well earlier that morning. Lee is a former seven-term lawmaker who also served as Prime Minister. He was appointed Executive Vice Chairperson of the National Unification Advisory Council in October last year.
