This agreement was established to systematically foster the clean hydrogen industry ecosystem and promote technology development by combining Pyeongtaek City's hydrogen infrastructure and industrial base with the institute's expertise in energy technology.
The institute was designated as the government’s dedicated agency for hydrogen industry promotion in December 2023 and is responsible for planning, evaluating, and managing research and development (R&D) in the energy technology sector. The institute is currently working with Pyeongtaek City to jointly establish a Clean Hydrogen Testing and Evaluation Center.
Through this agreement, the two organizations plan to cooperate on: ▲ establishing strategies and identifying projects to build a hydrogen economy foundation ▲ formulating and implementing the region’s basic plan for the hydrogen industry ▲ laying the groundwork for industry promotion by creating a clean hydrogen industry ecosystem and identifying R&D needs ▲ supporting the establishment and development of specialized research institutions for the hydrogen industry.
Pyeongtaek City is promoting the "Clean Hydrogen Testing, Evaluation, and Demonstration Support Infrastructure Project," which is the only project in Korea capable of performance evaluation for four types of water electrolysis and demonstration of large-capacity 6MW-class water electrolysis. Through this initiative, the city is accelerating the commercialization of clean hydrogen technologies, supporting companies’ RE100 implementation, and fostering the related industrial ecosystem.
Jung Jangseon, Mayor of Pyeongtaek, stated, "We will maximize the use of the city's energy resources and capabilities to strengthen global competitiveness in the clean hydrogen sector and lead sustainable development."
