Six Military Officers Including Former 707th Special Mission Unit Commander Kim Hyuntae Face Disciplinary Committee Today

The Ministry of National Defense announced on January 23 that it had convened a disciplinary committee for six military personnel who were indicted without detention in connection with the December 3 Martial Law.

The military personnel referred to the disciplinary committee that day include former 1st Airborne Special Forces Brigade Commander Brigadier General Lee Sanghyun, former Defense Security Command Counterintelligence Investigation Unit Commander Brigadier General Kim Daewoo, former 707th Special Mission Unit Commander Colonel Kim Hyuntae, former Defense Intelligence Command Planning Director Colonel Ko Donghee, former Central Newspaper Unit Commander Colonel Kim Bongkyu, and former 100th Brigade 2nd Business Unit Commander Colonel Jeong Seonguk.


Former Brigade Commander Lee and former Special Mission Unit Commander Kim Hyuntae are accused of leading troops and being involved in the blockade and infiltration of the National Assembly during the martial law. Former Counterintelligence Investigation Unit Commander Kim Daewoo is accused of participating in the operation of an arrest team targeting politicians. The three officers from the Defense Intelligence Command are each accused of being involved in the occupation of the National Election Commission and planning the arrest of its staff.


Meanwhile, former Defense Security Commander Yeo Inhyeong and former Intelligence Commander Moon Sangho were dismissed from their positions, and former Army Special Warfare Commander Kwak Jonggeun was removed from office.
