Six Air Pollutants, Including Fine Particulate Matter and Ozone, Monitored 24 Hours a Day
The Daejeon Institute of Health and Environment has newly installed a roadside air quality monitoring station at Birae Neighborhood Park in Daedeok-gu. Starting January 23, real-time measurement data will be released, marking the official commencement of operations.
This newly installed roadside monitoring station is operated to assess the impact of automobile emissions on surrounding air quality. It continuously measures six air pollutants, including fine particulate matter and ozone, 24 hours a day.
The measurement data will be made available in real time through the Ministry of Environment’s Air Korea, the “Our Neighborhood Air Information” mobile app, and the institute’s website.
With the operation of the Birae-dong station following last year’s opening of the Jijeok-dong station in Yuseong-gu, the number of roadside air quality monitoring networks in Daejeon has expanded to four. The city now operates a total of 19 air environment monitoring networks, including 11 urban air monitoring stations, 4 heavy metal monitoring stations, and mobile monitoring vehicles, significantly strengthening the region’s air pollution surveillance and response capabilities.
Jung Taeyoung, Director of the Daejeon Institute of Health and Environment, stated, "The foundation for real-time monitoring of roadside air quality, which is closely related to residents’ daily lives, has been expanded," adding, "Through the stable operation of the air environment monitoring network, we will promptly provide citizens with highly reliable air quality information."
