On January 23, the city of Ansan in Gyeonggi Province announced that starting this year, it will provide a monthly allowance of 50,000 won to social workers who have been employed for more than one year at long-term care institutions within the city.
The city explained that this allowance aims to provide a stable work environment for social workers and to offer continuous and professional services to users of long-term care institutions.
Until now, social workers employed at long-term care institutions have frequently changed jobs due to relatively low wage levels, and the need to improve their working conditions has been continuously raised.
In addition, the eligibility requirement for the long-term service incentive for long-term care workers, supported by the National Health Insurance Service, has been relaxed from three years to more than one year of employment. This is expected to significantly improve the treatment of social workers.
Lee Minguen, Mayor of Ansan, said, "I hope this allowance will serve as a small encouragement to social workers in the field," adding, "We will continue to develop support measures to improve working conditions and create a better welfare environment for related workers in the future."
