Manbo Siru Points
Converted into Local Currency
On January 23, the city of Siheung in Gyeonggi Province announced the launch of this year's "Manbo Siru" program, which allows residents to convert points accumulated by practicing daily walking into local currency.
"Manbo Siru" is an app that instantly converts points earned by achieving 10,000 or more steps a day into Siheung's local mobile currency, "Siru." Last year, a total budget of 200 million won in points was allocated, providing benefits to over 63,000 users.
The city has secured a total budget of approximately 170 million won, including special grants obtained by being selected as an excellent local government for local currency by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety last year, and has resumed the conversion and payment of mobile Siru.
Participants can also use the app's features to donate their walking points. Through last year's Manbo Siru donation challenge, local businesses and individuals donated a total of 92.55 million won to organizations such as the Siheung 1% Welfare Foundation, Shinchon Union Hospital, and the Siheung Talent Development Foundation.
A city official stated, "We will continue to develop Manbo Siru into a policy that citizens can truly feel, through stable operation and systematic management."
