[Weather] Ongoing Severe Cold... Snow in Central and Jeolla Regions

On Friday, January 23, subzero temperatures will continue, with snowfall expected mainly in the central regions and the Jeolla area.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, as of 5 a.m., the temperatures in major cities are as follows: Seoul -10.8 degrees Celsius, Incheon -9.8 degrees, Suwon -12.0 degrees, Chuncheon -16.1 degrees, Gangneung -6.7 degrees, Cheongju -8.9 degrees, Daejeon -9.3 degrees, Jeonju -7.3 degrees, Gwangju -5.4 degrees, Jeju 3.3 degrees, Daegu -5.9 degrees, Busan -5.1 degrees, Ulsan -4.7 degrees, and Changwon -4.8 degrees. Daytime temperatures will range from -4 to 6 degrees Celsius, with central regions expected to remain below freezing for the time being.


Until the morning, snow is expected in the western coastal areas of South Chungcheong, the western coasts and southern inland of North Jeolla, the western coasts of Gwangju and South Jeolla, and the central inland. From late afternoon, snow will fall in southern inland areas of Seoul and Gyeonggi, southern inland and mountainous regions of Gangwon, the Chungcheong area, and western inland areas of South Gyeongsang. Expected snowfall is 2 to 7 centimeters for the western coasts of North and South Jeolla, 1 to 5 centimeters for Gwangju, South Jeolla, and North Jeolla, 1 to 3 centimeters for southern inland and mountainous Gangwon, and around 1 centimeter for Daejeon, Sejong, South Chungcheong, and North Chungcheong. Expected precipitation is around 5 millimeters for the western coasts of North and South Jeolla, and less than 5 millimeters for Gwangju, South Jeolla, and North Jeolla.


Fine dust concentrations are expected to remain at 'good' to 'normal' levels nationwide due to smooth atmospheric dispersion. The air will be very dry, especially in the eastern coastal and mountainous areas of Gangwon, the eastern southern coast of South Jeolla, and the Gyeongsang region, where dry weather advisories are in effect.


Wave heights will be 0.5 to 2.5 meters in the East Sea, 0.5 to 2.0 meters in the West Sea, and 0.5 to 1.5 meters in the South Sea. In offshore areas up to about 200 kilometers from the coastline, wave heights will be 1.0 to 4.0 meters in the East Sea, 1.0 to 2.0 meters in the West Sea, and 0.5 to 2.5 meters in the South Sea.
