Accreditation for TEM and SEM Mechanical Testing
Boosting Export Competitiveness of Domestic Display Companies
The Display Innovation Process Center at Chungnam Technopark has been officially recognized as a nationally accredited testing institution.
Chungnam Technopark has secured international credibility in the field of advanced mechanical testing, providing a practical foundation for domestic display companies to verify their technologies and enhance their export competitiveness.
Chungnam Technopark announced on January 22 that the Display Innovation Process Center obtained accreditation as an official testing institution in the field of mechanical testing from the Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (KOLAS) on December 24 of last year, and held a plaque unveiling ceremony at the center on January 21 to officially declare this status.
This accreditation was granted after a comprehensive evaluation of testing capabilities and the overall quality management system, based on the international standard (KS Q ISO/IEC 17025:2017), in accordance with the Framework Act on National Standards and the Act on the Management of Conformity Assessment.
The center met all criteria, including the accuracy of testing equipment, the expertise of professional personnel, and standardized testing procedures.
The accreditation covers mechanical testing (metals and related products), and the center conducts metal coating thickness measurements using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
Accredited TEM testing is a highly advanced field held by only five institutions in Korea, and SEM by only thirteen, both of which are regarded as core analytical technologies that determine the precision of advanced display processes.
With this KOLAS accreditation, test reports issued by the center are recognized as having the same legal effect in over 80 countries worldwide, under the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation Mutual Recognition Arrangement (ILAC-MRA).
As a result, domestic small and medium-sized display companies with a high proportion of exports can demonstrate technological reliability without undergoing additional overseas certification procedures, leading to cost savings and reduced market entry barriers.
The center is currently promoting the "Display Innovation Process Platform Establishment Project" with support from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology, and is supporting the demonstration and verification of next-generation OLED technologies.
This accreditation as an official testing institution is expected to further strengthen the role of national infrastructure in supporting technology development for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Jung Byunghwa, Head of the Display Innovation Process Division at Chungnam Technopark, stated, "We will provide advanced testing and analysis services to materials, parts, and equipment companies with internationally credible test data," adding, "We will faithfully fulfill our role as a nationally recognized testing institution, contributing to technological self-reliance and the strengthening of the display industry ecosystem."
