"Absolutely Secret"... Suspicious Messages from Professor Who Gave Female Student an 'A+'

Highest Grade Awarded Despite No Assignment Submission
Professor and Female Student Entangled in "Private Meeting" Allegations

The police have launched an investigation into a former university professor who is suspected of awarding the highest grade to a student who did not properly submit a class assignment. Allegations have also been raised about an inappropriate relationship, including private meetings between the professor and the student.

On January 22, the Anyang Manan Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced that it had booked and was investigating former Professor A from a private university in South Chungcheong Province on charges of obstruction of business. Previously, the university filed a complaint with the Yongin Western Police Station, alleging that Professor A manipulated the grades of student B, thereby interfering with academic administration. Considering jurisdiction over the residence, the case was transferred to the Anyang Manan Police Station in October last year.

Professor A is accused of interfering with academic work by awarding the highest grade, an A+, to student B in the first semester of 2024, even though B did not submit a completed assignment by the deadline. He is also suspected of having an inappropriate relationship with B, including private meetings during the second semester of the same year.

The university convened a disciplinary committee and dismissed Professor A after these facts became known through campus bulletin boards in September last year. The dismissal resolution reportedly included evidence that Professor A sent a message to B just before the assignment deadline saying, "Honey, there are 8 minutes left," and when B checked the grade and asked, "I haven't submitted it yet, so why did I get an A+?" Professor A replied, "Today is the deadline for entering grades, so I had no other choice. And this must absolutely remain a secret, okay?"

However, Professor A is currently denying some of the charges and is known to have filed an appeal with the Ministry of Education's Teachers’ Appeals Committee against the disciplinary action.
