Damyang County in Jeollanam-do will provide a "Filial Piety Allowance" to support large families caring for elderly members and to promote a culture of respect for elders and filial duty.

According to Damyang County on January 22, applications for the "2026 Lunar New Year Filial Piety Allowance" will be accepted at town and township offices until February 4.

The Filial Piety Allowance is a program that provides support during major holidays to caregivers in households with three or more generations who are supporting an elderly family member aged 80 or older. The allowance is paid 200,000 won each for Lunar New Year and Chuseok, totaling 400,000 won annually.

Eligible households must be caring for an elderly person born on or before December 31, 1946, with at least three generations living together as direct lineal ascendants or descendants. In addition, as of the application date, all household members must have resided in Damyang County for at least one year to receive the benefit. The allowance will be deposited into the caregiver's account without any restrictions on usage.

Newly eligible households wishing to receive the allowance for this year's Lunar New Year must visit their local town or township office to apply by February 4.

In addition to accepting new applications, the county will also re-verify eligibility criteria such as actual residence and caregiving status for existing recipient households from February 2 to 11 to finalize the list of beneficiaries.

A Damyang County official stated, "The Filial Piety Allowance program is designed to support families who care for their elders with devotion and to encourage generational harmony and a culture of filial piety. We will strive to ensure that all eligible households receive this benefit through active promotion and guidance."
