Jeonnam Province will invest 151.7 billion won this year in road maintenance projects to improve transportation convenience for residents, ensure swift budget execution, and invigorate the local economy.
This year, Jeonnam Province plans to maintain roads across 57 districts, covering a total of 210 kilometers. Among these, construction in seven districts, including the first phase of the Hwasun Wonhwa-Hyosan section, will be completed within the year, with phased openings aimed at improving mobility within residents' daily lives.
Four districts, including the access road to Seonamsa Temple in Suncheon, which are included in the mid- to long-term plan, will be newly commissioned, and 5.9 billion won has been allocated for the design of undeveloped roads to fully launch these projects.
To improve living conditions and guarantee basic transportation rights in island regions, four maritime bridge projects will also be accelerated. Construction of the Jindo Jeopdo Bridge is underway with the goal of opening this year, and the Sinan Jangsan-Jara connecting bridge is entering full-scale construction after completing preparations. The Wando Soan-Gudo connecting bridge will begin construction in the first half of the year following the bidding process.
The detailed design for the Yeosu Geumo Island-Wolho Island maritime bridge is in progress, and aging local roads in the Geumo Island area will be prioritized for maintenance to support the successful hosting of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo.
Over the past three years, Jeonnam Province has invested 215 billion won annually in road maintenance projects and plans to continue strengthening local infrastructure in response to changing transportation demands.
Kim Youngrok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, stated, "Expanding transportation infrastructure is essential for Jeonnam to become the AI and energy capital of Korea," adding, "We will build a dense road network connecting regions and islands to create a Jeonnam where industry and tourism grow together."
