As of 9:08 a.m. on January 22, the KOSPI stood at 5,014.51, up 104.58 points (2.13%) from the previous trading day. The index opened at 4,987.06, up 77.13 points (1.57%) from the previous session, and has continued to widen its gains.

The rebound in the U.S. stock market has influenced this rise. On January 21 (local time), the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 49,077.23, up 588.64 points (1.21%) from the previous session on the New York Stock Exchange. The easing of tensions between the United States and Europe is cited as a reason for the rebound.
