"Don't Burn It, Crush It"... Busan Agricultural Technology Center Offers Agricultural Byproduct Shredding Support

"Mobile Agricultural Byproduct Shredding Support Team" Visits Villages
Priority Support for Areas Adjacent to Forests, Elderly, Disabled, and Women Farmers

"Don't burn it-shred and crush it instead!"

The Busan Agricultural Technology Center is offering free agricultural byproduct shredding services ahead of the spring farming season.

The Busan Agricultural Technology Center announced that it is implementing a support program for agricultural byproduct shredding in order to prevent fine dust, wildfires, and reduce the occurrence of crop diseases and pests.

This initiative is part of the "2026 Agricultural Byproduct Safe Disposal Support Project," which is linked to the "Seasonal Fine Dust Management Program." The goal is to reduce the burning of field ridges and the incineration of agricultural byproducts. The program will run from January 26 to October 19.

To improve operational efficiency, the center will operate an "Agricultural Byproduct Shredding Support Team," which will visit farms in priority areas to provide assistance. This year, the support area is expected to reach 65 hectares, an increase of about 10% compared to last year's 59 hectares.

Priority is given in the following order: areas adjacent to forests, elderly and disabled farmers, women farmers, small-scale farms, and then general farms. The items eligible for shredding include agricultural byproducts from field crops and orchards. Alongside the shredding operations, the center will also conduct education and publicity to prevent illegal incineration.

It is known that shredding agricultural byproducts and returning them to the soil improves soil fertility and is effective in preventing spring wildfires and reducing fine dust.

Yu Mibok, Director of the Busan Agricultural Technology Center, stated, "Supporting agricultural byproduct shredding helps prevent illegal incineration and reduces the generation of fine dust. We will actively promote this project to farmers and strive to create a cleaner rural environment."
