Discussion on Increasing Mobility Systems Engineering Enrollment from 20 to 25 Students
Advancing the RISE Chungnam Employment Guarantee Model
Sunmoon University is actively considering expanding its mobility talent development program in partnership with Volvo Trucks Korea, a global commercial vehicle company.
On January 16, Sunmoon University announced that it held the "First-Year Mobility Systems Engineering Department Performance Review Forum" at the Cheonan Sinbuldang Art Center, where it discussed plans to increase the department’s enrollment from 20 to 25 students.
This forum was organized as part of the "RISE Regional Employment Guarantee Chungnam-Type Contract Department Operation Project," supported by Chungcheongnam-do Province and the Chungnam RISE Center.
The Department of Mobility Systems Engineering is a field-oriented contract department that directly reflects industry demand in its curriculum. Beginning with the 2025 academic year, it will recruit students and design an industry-participatory curriculum, establishing an industry-academia cooperation system utilizing Volvo Trucks’ nationwide network. The department has been evaluated as having made a stable start.
During the forum, participants agreed that there is a continuous increase in demand for professionals in the commercial vehicle and future mobility sectors.
Sunmoon University and Volvo Trucks Korea plan to hold joint admissions briefings for high school students and will completely revamp the department website and promotional infrastructure in preparation for the 2027 academic year recruitment. In addition, they will operate an industry-focused mock interview program for prospective students.
The Department of Mobility Systems Engineering will begin operating its regular curriculum starting in the 2026 academic year. Students will acquire the capabilities to be immediately deployed to the industry after graduation through field training linked to Volvo Trucks’ nationwide service centers and practical training led by field experts.
Yoon Jonghwan, Director of the Contract Department Operation Center at Sunmoon University, stated, "We are focusing on strengthening cooperation with industry partners and enhancing the quality of education," adding, "We aim to establish a contract department model where graduation directly leads to employment by expanding enrollment and implementing a systematic admissions strategy."
Meanwhile, Sunmoon University will conduct an additional recruitment for new students in the Department of Mobility Systems Engineering for the 2026 academic year from February 20 to February 27.
