Review of Special Law Deliberations
Discussion of Council-Level Strategies and Action Items
As legislative discussions in the National Assembly regarding the administrative integration of Daejeon and South Chungcheong Province gain momentum, the South Chungcheong Provincial Council is accelerating efforts to develop a response strategy aimed at enhancing the institutional completeness of the integration process.
The “Special Committee on Administrative Integration of South Chungcheong and Daejeon” of the South Chungcheong Provincial Council, chaired by Shin Youngho, held its fourth meeting on January 20. During the meeting, the committee reviewed the progress of key work related to the administrative integration and discussed future response strategies and action items, according to an announcement on January 21.
The main agenda items included the current status of deliberations on the special administrative integration bill under review in the National Assembly, as well as response measures in line with the legislative schedule going forward.
In addition, the committee discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the central government and metropolitan governments, as well as response strategies at the level of the South Chungcheong Provincial Council.
Furthermore, the provincial executive branch delivered a work report on the formation and operation of the administrative integration working group, as well as the status of consultations with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. The committee members reviewed the overall level of institutional and administrative preparedness for the integration process.
Chairman Shin Youngho stated, “The administrative integration of South Chungcheong and Daejeon has reached a critical turning point, with the government setting its policy direction and legislative discussions taking place in the National Assembly simultaneously. The National Assembly, the central government, and the executive branch must cooperate responsibly to ensure the smooth enactment of the special law.”
He added, “The Provincial Council will closely monitor the entire integration process and develop council-level response strategies to ensure that residents’ opinions are fully reflected.”
The Special Committee on Administrative Integration has continued discussions through joint forums with the councils of both cities and provinces, listening to case studies from other regions, and conducting site visits. Going forward, the committee plans to continue its deliberations to ensure that administrative integration is responsibly pursued as a national agenda, based on cooperation with the National Assembly, the central government, and relevant agencies.
