Jakum-dong: "Toward a Greater Future, Harvesting the Fruits of Growth"

The Jakum-dong Community Center in Uijeongbu (headed by Yoo Jin-hwan) held the '2026 Jakum-dong Major Business Report Meeting' on the 4th floor multipurpose room of the center on January 20, with local residents in attendance.

This meeting was organized to share the future value of Jakum-dong and to provide a detailed explanation of the major policy roadmap for 2026. The event included New Year greetings, a video featuring direct participation from residents, and an open conversation with the community, fostering a strong consensus on regional development.

In particular, Jakum-dong highlighted that Camp Kyle, a returned U.S. military base, was selected as the final candidate site for an economic free zone in April 2025. As a result, expectations are rising for the local economic impact, including attracting biomedical companies based on medical technology and creating new jobs.

For 2026, Jakum-dong plans to actively pursue major initiatives such as securing temporary parking spaces within Camp Kyle, improving traffic flow at the intersection in front of St. Mary's Hospital, and implementing the resident-led autonomy project 'Geumdong-a Nolja.'

Yoo Jin-hwan, head of Jakum-dong, stated, "This report meeting was a valuable opportunity to confirm Jakum-dong's growth and design a greater future together with residents," adding, "We will continue to incorporate residents' valuable opinions into policy to create a livable Jakum-dong where administration, transportation, and the environment are harmoniously integrated."

Earlier, on January 19, the Jangam-dong Community Center (headed by Park Jaebeom) held a business report meeting attended by about 100 people, including residents, the mayor, a National Assembly member, and city and provincial council members.

Jangam-dong cited last year's achievements, including the opening of the Suraksan Train Rock Observatory and rest area, the creation of the Jungnangcheon Cheongbori Trail (Barefoot Youth Road), and the development of the Jangam Forest Neulpum Trail and outdoor garden, highlighting the success of resident-oriented environmental improvement projects.

For 2026, several major projects are planned that will reshape the landscape of Jangam-dong. Key plans include the Dobongsan-Okjeong metropolitan railway project, the modernization of aging public sewage treatment facilities, the reopening of Island Castle, and the Jangam Buckwheat Flower Village Festival, all aimed at enhancing residents' convenience and revitalizing the local economy.

During the conversation session with residents, discussions continued with questions and suggestions regarding local issues, making it a meaningful time to exchange diverse opinions on the future direction of Jangam-dong.

An official from Uijeongbu City stated, "This report meeting was a valuable opportunity to look back on past achievements and hear directly from residents," and added, "We will actively reflect the valuable suggestions made at the event in our policies to make Uijeongbu a better place to live."
