The Hyundai Motor Company Palisade has been selected as the final winner in the Utility category at the 2026 North American Car of the Year (NACTOY) awards, decisively outscoring the second- and third-place contenders.
The North American Car of the Year committee announced the results at the Detroit Auto Show on January 14 (local time), and subsequently released the final scores and judges' comments for each nominee on its official website. The Palisade secured 270 points in the final vote, significantly ahead of the Nissan Leaf in second place with 135 points and the Lucid Gravity in third place with 85 points, earning the top spot in the Utility category.
The NACTOY jury, comprised of 50 automotive journalists from the United States and Canada, cited the Palisade's outstanding value for its price, high level of refinement, and premium features and amenities comparable to higher-end vehicles as the key factors for its victory.
In particular, the next-generation hybrid system was highlighted as one of the Palisade's main strengths. John Vincent, editor at U.S. News & World Report, praised, "The Palisade hybrid model sets a new standard for its class," adding, "It is currently the best sport utility vehicle (SUV) you can buy."
The Palisade also received high marks for its spaciousness and practicality, especially its generous legroom, cargo capacity, and advanced convenience features. Doug DeMuro, a renowned automotive YouTuber with 5.05 million subscribers and a member of the judging panel, commented, "It is impressive how the Palisade has further improved upon an already excellent product," and described it as "the clear winner in the Utility category of the North American Car of the Year awards."
With this recognition, the Palisade is expected to further strengthen its presence in the North American market and solidify its status as a leading family SUV. In particular, its outstanding product competitiveness, led by the next-generation hybrid system, is anticipated to establish it as an effective alternative during the transition to electrification, further supporting Hyundai Motor Company's position in the North American market.
