Jinju City Holds Livestock Disease Control Council, Declares "Zero Livestock Infectious Diseases" Initiative

Joint Disease Control for Small-Scale and Vulnerable Farms
"Disinfection Day" to Be Implemented

Jinju City, South Gyeongsang Province, announced on January 21 that it is accelerating its disease control administration under the slogan "Zero Livestock Infectious Diseases" by holding the "2026 Livestock Disease Control Council" at the Agricultural Technology Center conference room, aiming to ensure transparency and enhance the effectiveness of disease control administration.

This council meeting was attended by Cho Hae-sook, Director of the Agricultural Technology Center, and 13 representatives from livestock-related organizations and institutions. During the meeting, expert opinions were collected from relevant agencies such as the Gyeongnam Animal Hygiene Testing Institute, Jinju Livestock Cooperative, and livestock associations by animal type. As a result, 38 types of disease control agents necessary for the prevention and disinfection of livestock infectious diseases were finalized.

This year, the city plans to invest 685 million won in nine projects to prevent the outbreak of infectious diseases among livestock farms, and will swiftly supply vaccines and preventive medicines to each farm starting in March.

In addition, using the disinfectants selected at this meeting, the joint disease control team will conduct disinfection 24 times a year, targeting small-scale farms, farms vulnerable to disease control, and traditional markets. Disinfectants will also be directly provided to commercial-scale farms to effectively implement the "National Simultaneous Disinfection Day," which is held every Wednesday.

Director Cho Hae-sook stated, "Given the serious nationwide situation regarding highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) and African swine fever (ASF), it is crucial to supply disease control agents in a timely manner and implement preemptive disease control measures. We will do our utmost for field-oriented disease control administration to prevent economic losses for farms, enhance the competitiveness of the livestock industry, and ensure that citizens can always safely consume our livestock products."

Jinju City has been implementing stringent disease control measures since October last year in response to the nationwide spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza and African swine fever. In particular, the city is focusing on preemptive control measures to prevent the inflow of infectious diseases from other regions, and plans to devote all efforts to the "Zero Livestock Infectious Diseases" initiative, starting with the supply of disease control agents decided at this council meeting.
